  • The modification of polymer materials to achieve intelligent properties has spread from innovative areas of materials science, including the cellulose chemistry, to the textile industry. Among many chemical pathways to modify cellulose-based materials, “click” chemistry has become an attractive, high-potential alternative. The novel “double click” approach for the modification of cellulosic materials involves activation of the cellulose surface by introducing chemically “clickable” functional groups, followed by the attachment of property-bearing molecules.
