In a joint building venture, the future residents of a building form a group in order to develop a housing project for themselves. The course of a joint building venture is depicted starting from urban planning and community building to the participatory process involving the future residents, and finally the design of an individual apartment. As joint building ventures become popular, a perspective for genuinely user-oriented housing design and development, as well as the transformation of housing design into a service business is opening up.
