The starting point of my work is the invisible background imagery of our visual environment: I study stock photos sold in online image banks and the world they depict. I observe the images especially through the concept of gender and visual power. The research material of this work consists of 150 stock photos depicting office workers, collected from three different image banks. I also see image banks as image archives and I aim to demonstrate that the image banks of today are a continuum of the early 20th century police archives and their use as a tool in controlling social deviance.
