Understanding the user has become more and more essential in the design practice. In my thesis, this area of expertise is researched through a design process. My task is to design an interpretation of an ancient artefact, a kite, that connects with the user of today. Empathic design approach and participatory workshops, pattern design skills and examining lifestyle and trend data are set to be utilized as means to answer the design problem. The work presents an optional way for a designer to work, inspired by the user, without losing one’s artistic freedom.
