My diploma work is a design of a communal holiday lodging area in Kuhmo. The lodging units are grouped around courtyards which surround a central space, forming open communal and intimate private outdoor spaces. All the private and communal buildings are connected with the courtyards. Their main idea is to bring the visitors closer to nature and to fade out the boundary between indoor and outdoor space. The courtyard is the most important place of the holiday experience: it combines the forest nature, culture and the communal aspect of the work.
