In my thesis, I have researched hegemonic masculinity in Finnish culture. What is masculinity? What makes a real man? These are some of the questions, to which I have tried to find answers by opening the complexities of masculinity.
By breaking down elements of Finnish hegemonic masculinity in our everyday life and putting the pieces back together in a new way, I have created my vision of a Finnish man. I have looked at masculinities through transgression to open them in a carnivalesque way in my work.
Through my collection I have presented an alternative universe to the ruling hegemonic masculinity, which I find very confining and narrow. This is my picture of a Finnish man, a man from the north.
