Two weeks ago, the MoA build team got the keys for the exhibition space and – after wiping out some of the dust – started to build the first walls.

It may be hard to imagine that this huge empty hall will soon be a full-grown exhibition space, but our architects and build team clearly know what to do. Before you have time to say “MoA”, there is already the first wall just waiting for those thesis works to be added (well, a paint job might still be due before that).
Transforming a warehouse into a galleryWorking under these conditions requires a certain amount of creativity. Need a work desk for your blueprints? No-brainer – we’ll just add some legs to a stage element and grab a stool from the attic.
An architect's dream office?Despite its ergonomically questionable computer workstations, the Jätkäsaari satellite easily wins the regular MoA office in terms of atmosphere as Marco from the architects points out:
Great mood, great coffee, great music (hard rock), easy access to smoking areas, great terrace, what else we need?
And, indeed, that terrace is a winner; not for the faint of heart, though:
How about taking a break from the dust on the roof terrace? No wonder one from the team already starts to day dream about the time after MoA is up and running:
Terrace – check! Sun chairs – get. Drinks – check! ..and wait for the sunny month of May to begin!
…but before that, there’s still a huge exhibition to be built. Don’t be upset if we are slow in responding to your e-mail the next two weeks – as you can see, we are all busy building the future at Jätkäsaari.
Disclaimer: That terrace won’t be accessible to the public due to (obvious) safety concerns. But you’ll get your share of the view, that’s a promise. Have you already shortlisted the works you want to see at MoA’12?
